The ‘Appeal to Heaven’ flag has its roots in the revolutionary war, used by a squadron of cruisers commissioned under George Washington. The phrase itself is taken from British philosopher John Locke (I’m looking at you, Lost fans…) as a plea to a higher power - a morally just Supreme Judge - for vindication when all earthly measures are exhausted. Rad, right? So yeah...it’s got the revolutionary thing going on, and that history is pretty cool. But to us, that’s *history* man.
We instead like to apply the spirit of the phrase to a modern context and have personally found comfort in flying the Appeal flag in recent days seeking adjudication of our circumstance, eyes upward in exasperation and desperation…but also in hope.
And it is with *hope* that we personally find the greatest appeal of the Appeal design (like that?), reminding us to hold fast...all is not lost. We’ll make it through this yet, dammit.
